Endangered Species Instruments

Instruments currently classified by Norfolk Music Service as ‘Endangered’ are Oboe, Bassoon, Viola, Cello, Double Bass, French Horn, Euphonium and Tuba. Please note this list may change from time to time dependent upon local need.

The Music Service provides support for students wishing to learn less-commonly played instruments (Endangered Species) and who are learning with a Norfolk Music Service teacher. This support provides free instrument hire for the first year of learning, with additional years free for Looked After Children (LAC) and for children in receipt of Free School Meals (FSM).

Applications should to be made through the Norfolk Music Service Fee Remission scheme. Students who do not qualify for assistance through the FSM or LAC criteria can make an independent application in writing to the Head of Music Service stating why financial support is required. All instrument loans are subject to application and availability. If instruments are not available at the point of application then the student will be placed on a waiting list.
