We are working in partnership with East Norfolk Sixth Form College and The Garage, Norwich, to offer the following opportunities for Years 9-11, FREE OF CHARGE.

Stepping Stone to A-level Music

These classes will provide students with the opportunity to top-up their music qualifications so they are ready to take the next step on their musical journey.

It is designed for Year 10 and 11 students wishing to work towards music qualifications such as Grade 5 Music Theory, BTEC or other performance exams. These classes are particularly valuable for those pupils looking to take a A-level Music/Music Technology course in September 2018 or 2019 but are not currently offered GCSE music at their school.

4pm-5:30pm, Tuesdays, term-time only

GCSE Music

This course is suitable for students who are not currently offered GCSE Music in their school or wish to compliment their in-school studies in other subjects. Students will explore four key areas which are designed to develop knowledge and understanding of music through the study of a variety of genres and styles in a wider context.

Area of study 1: Musical Forms and Devices
Area of study 2: Music for Ensemble
Area of study 3: Film Music
Area of study 4: Popular Music.

Students will be supported to engage actively in the process of music study whilst developing performing and composing skills individually and in groups. They will explore a variety of instruments, styles and approaches to performing and composing as well as looking at music technologies and their use in the creation and presentation of music. Students will reflect upon and evaluate their own and others’ music and engage with and appreciate the diverse heritage of music to become effective musicians.

Course dates:

30 October 2017 – June 2019

4pm-6pm, Mondays, term-time only
