Young string players across Norfolk are invited to attend a series of workshops, which culminate in a large-scale performance at the Celebration of Young String Players’ Concert at St Andrew’s Hall, Norwich on Sunday 23 April 2017.

Players of Grade 1-3 standard are invited to the Fiddlesticks workshops, and players of Grade 3-6 standard are invited to Classic Strings.

Closing date for applications is Friday 24 February 2017 and as places are limited they will be allocated on a first come first served basis. You will be informed after this date only if you have not been accepted. Music for the workshops will be issued on receipt of the application.

In order to book a place please complete the relevant form downloadable from this page and send it together with a cheque for £40.00 or £20.00 made payable to Norfolk County Council. Please note cheques are non-refundable except in exceptional circumstances.

Please collect children promptly at the end of the workshop. PLEASE NOTE – we are unable to provide transport for any of these workshops.


Fiddlesticks

Workshop 1 – Saturday 4 March 2017

Venue: Norwich Professional Development Centre, 144 Woodside Road NR79QL

Time: 10:00am – 2:30pm (registration from 09:30 )

Cost: £40.00 for both workshops and concert inclusive / £20.00 if member of a Music Service Ensemble

Standard: Grade 1 –3 Players MUST be able to:

  • Bow confidently, using slurs
  • Read music fairly fluently, using finger patterns:
  • violin/viola 1-23-4, 12-3-4, cello 1-34, 12-4, bass 1-4, 12-4

Staff: Helen Stowell, Ceri Peterson and Members of the Music Service String Team

You will need to bring:

  • Your instrument and Fiddlesticks music if you have been given a copy
  • Packed lunch / drinks / snacks to last the whole day
  • Music stand, marked clearly with your name
  • Book / small game for breaks.

Workshop 2 – Sunday 23 April 2017

Venue: St Andrew’s Hall

Time: 10.30am (Registration from 10:00) Concert – 3.30pm
