In March this year, the Government published its non-statutory Model Music Curriculum, in which a minimum of one hour’s classroom music per week across Years 1 to 9 was recommended. As Schools Minister Nick Gibb MP has written in his introduction to the MMC, it is “designed to assist, rather than prescribe” and its aim is “to ensure every child develops a life-long love of music and musical performance”.

Simon Toyne, Executive Director of Music at the David Ross Education Trust, and member of the DfE Expert Panel, will unpack the MMC from a secondary teacher’s perspective, outlining the key elements in the MMC and how these can be used to refresh thinking about KS3 school curricula and schemes of learning.

This CPD is suitable for anyone working with secondary students delivering music.
