The annual Norfolk Young Musician Competition will take place at the John Innes Centre, Colney on Sunday 15th January 2017 starting at 10 am.
Prizes
Three cash prizes of £200, £150 and £100 (1st, 2nd and 3rd places)
Michael Badminton String Prize for the most promising young string player
Mrs E Sturgeon Piano Prize for the most promising young pianist.
Norfolk and Norwich Chamber Music Prize for the most promising wind player
Prize-winners Concerts
The three winners may be required to perform in a Prize-Winners concert and may be offered concerts in local festivals. The Norfolk Young Musician 2017 will be offered a lunchtime recital at Anteros in Norwich.
The Competition
Each competitor is invited to play a 15 minute programme in front of an audience in the John Innes Conference Centre. Pianists will play on a Steinway grand piano.
The competition usually lasts for most of the day with the adjudication at the end. Competitors are encouraged to bring parents and friends to listen and to support each other by hearing other players perform. All participants will be required to be present for the final adjudication. Stage presentation and dress are important to consider. The winners will be required to pose for press photos after the adjudication.
Eligibility
Only musicians who satisfy the following criteria are eligible to apply. The candidate must be:
Resident, working or receiving full time education or music tuition in Norfolk for the whole or greater part of the 12 months prior to the date of the competition.
21 years of age or under on the above date (25 years for Singers).
Not engaged in a full time occupation as either a performer or teacher of music
Candidates must have gained Grade 8 with Merit (or higher) or any post grade 8 qualification or equivalent matching standard, as approved by the Trustees.
Participants from previous competitions are eligible but not first prize winners
Disabled candidates are advised that the John Innes Centre is very accessible.
