Our Dementia Choir

Our Dementia Choir began as part of a documentary created for BBC. The two-part series saw acclaimed actress Vicky McClure take us on a deeply personal journey where she set out to discover the true extent of music’s power in combatting dementia. Vicky knows only too well the cruelness of dementia having helped care for her grandma who died in 2015. But Vicky also saw the amazing effect the music had in calming her down as well as giving glimpses of the old Nana. Vicky formed a choir of people all living with dementia in her home town of Nottingham to see whether music can make measurable difference to their lives. The result: Our Dementia Choir.

Make A PledgeMake Music Day logo square

This year we are asking students from across the country to make a pledge to share one of the VBS 2022 songs with an elderly relative, residents in a care home setting or with an elderly neighbour and encourage you to ‘spread a smile of song’. We want to hear from you about how you are sharing your VBS2022 song amongst the older generation.

You can share your performance with us on social media by using the hashtag #VBS22. On the registration form we ask you to share any pledges that you make and on the day of the performance Mark De-Lisser will share some of your schools’ pledges with the national audience.
