Norfolk Centre for Young Musicians is a division of the Guildhall School of Music & Drama, London and City of Norwich School – an Ormiston Academy. The weekly music centre is open to young musicians aged 8–18 who are encouraged to work in ensembles with professional musicians and develop high levels of performance, musicianship and composition.
NCYM has two exciting opportunities coming up this February for students, parents and teachers.
Samba Workshop
Norfolk Centre for Young Musicians invites KS4 & KS5 students and their teachers to a two-part workshop on Friday 7 February, which includes working with a 7 piece Samba Band from Guildhall conservatoire.
1.15 – 2.00pm
Staff refreshments and an opportunity to find out more about the work that NCYM are doing and the support/bursaries offered to students.
2.00 – 4.00pm
A two-part workshop aimed at KS4 & KS5 students.
This will include an hour session working with the Samba Band and an hour session on options for studying music in Years 10 – 13.

Open Day
The next NCYM open day is on Saturday 8 February at City of Norwich School and is an excellent opportunity to see what goes on at NCYM, to find out more about their ensembles, classes, and offers the potential to audition for 2020 entry.
The Open Day will include:
- A Samba/Percussion workshop and performance by a visiting 7-piece Samba Band from Guildhall School of Music & Drama, London.
- Opportunities to meet NCYM staff and students and see them in action
- Information on individual lessons available
The timetable for the day will be as follows (subject to change):
09.45 – 10.00 Welcome and introductions
10.15 – 11.00 Percussion workshop for students who have some previous experience of playing an instrument or singing. Aimed at age 9 upwards.
11.15 – 11.45 Concert by the Guildhall Samba Band
12.15 -13.00 Introduction to Samba Workshop for primary school pupils Years 3 – 6
