Ahead of their concert at Norwich Theatre Royal, players from the BBC Big Band held a Masterclass with advanced young jazz musicians from ensembles led by Norfolk Music Service.

The young musicians explored techniques and jazz concepts within the big band style under direction of Barry Forgie, Musical Director of the BBC Big Band. He worked with each section on their listening skills, tightening rhythms and improving the ensemble’s sound. He also shared his valuable experience and guidance, encouraging the young players to rehearse and perform at a professional standard.

The Masterclass was followed by the BBC Big Band’s rehearsal, which was attended by the Masterclass students and junior members of the Norfolk Music Service training ensembles, who enjoyed the experience of hearing top musicians preparing for a gig.

Thanks to the BBC Big Band and Norwich Theatre Royal for an incredible opportunity for our young musicians.
