Norfolk Music Hub are partnering with Gresham’s to offer a fantastic opportunity for young people across Norfolk and Suffolk to rehearse and play with the British Army Band Colchester on Friday 4th of October, 2024.

We are delighted to welcome the British Army Band Colchester to Norfolk and offer any students working at grade 4 standard and above, on a woodwind, brass or percussion instrument the opportunity to join us for a play day.

Timings and schedule:

  • 9.45am: arrive
  • 10:00 – 11:50: Initial rehearsals- Full band
  • 12:00 – 13:00: Lunch
  • 13:00 – 14:00: Sectional Rehearsals
  • 14:00 – 15:00: Final rehearsal – Full Band
  • 15:00-15:15: Short Break
  • 15:15 – 16:00: Careers Brief and performance to families
  • 16:00: Finish

Will I need to prepare anything in advance of attending?

  • Music will be made available for you to download and rehearse ahead of attending

Do I need to attend with my educational setting?

  • Yes, you must be registered by your educational setting to attend, and they must accompany you to the Play Day

Is there an age restriction?

  • No, as long as you are playing at grade 4 and above

Will lunch be provided?

  • Yes, Gresham’s have very kindly offered to provide lunch for any visiting students free of charge

How many students can each educational setting bring?

  • Each setting can bring up to 8 students, with only 24 spaces being offered please only register for the spaces you will fill

Is there a charge for this day?

  • No, this opportunity is being offered free of charge with support from Norfolk Music Hub, Gresham’s and British Army Band Colchester

What does each young person need to bring with them on the day?

  • Instrument, pencil, print out of music, music stand, water bottle, a coat, plenty of enthusiasm

When will the resources be available?

  • A resources page will be available from early September, with access to all the parts

Can families watch the concert?

  • Yes, a link will be sent to teachers to share with families in early September. There will be no cost to attend this concert.

When will I be notified of a place?

  • The teacher who registered students will be notified by July 1st if you have been successful in securing a place on this Play Day
