A workshop poster for "Out of this World." October 2018

Event Details

Experience a weekend of advanced orchestral playing on the theme The Universe. The programme will centre on the suite ‘The Planets’ by Gustav Holst. 2018 is the centenary of the first performance of this wonderfully exuberant and ever popular work. Also included will be music from the extraordinary film 2001: A Space Odyssey, the theme of which is from ‘Also Sprach Zarathustra’ by Richard Strauss.

Workshop participants will work together under the musical direction of John Stephens, assisted by 9 other professional instrumental coaches including Alex Girdlestone (strings), Barry Carben (woodwind), David Scragg (Brass) and Colin Shaw (percussion). The workshop will be a great opportunity for musicians of all ages to refresh their playing skills and also for those who are more familiar with substantial well known orchestral works. To gain maximum benefit players should be at least of Grade 6 standard. Younger players are very much encouraged to work alongside experienced musicians, under professional guidance. There will be a free informal public concert on the Sunday evening, 28 October.

Cost:
£70 for adults
£45 for students aged under 18
