In 2022 Her Majesty the Queen will be celebrating her Platinum Jubilee and to mark the occasion A Royal Salute will be performed at the Norfolk Showground.

The two performances will take place during the Norfolk Show days on June 29th & 30th in the Main Arena.

We are offering the opportunity for a young person residing in Norfolk to compose a new fanfare to lead into the National Anthem.

This will be performed at both shows and we are expecting it to be on Radio & TV too!

This competition is open to anyone up to the age of 18 (as of June 29th 2022) and in full time Education in Norfolk.

The Brief

A new exciting and uplifting fanfare piece of music lasting between 2 minutes and 2 minutes 30 seconds, composed for the combined forces of the Norfolk County Symphonic Wind Band and Norfolk County String Orchestra.

The piece must lead into the famous paused drum roll that precedes the playing of the National Anthem (the Anthem is in the key of G Major).

You will need to orchestrate it and submit a full score to be considered.

If you use the scoring software Musescore, Dorico, or Sibelius you can send the score file itself. Any other version you will need to submit a printed score and an audio realisation of your piece.

Please note that orchestral parts for the winning entry can be extracted by us from Musescore, Dorico or Sibelius but for any other version the winner would need to provide fully produced parts for the orchestra.
